I saw Patrick Thomas's work on The Daily Heller. He uses a smart combination of shapes and graphics to create other shapes, and the result is very cool:

Atmostheory
Some pretty prints by Christopher David Ryan at Atmostheory:
Also, these posters are clever (but probably only for Mac users...). Available for purchase here.

Song of the week
This video for Department of Eagles' "No One Does It Like You" is incredibly creepy. My favorite part is when the ghosts rise out of the dead guys' mouths...
The video debuted at the MoMA and was created using only six dancers.
Department of Eagles features Daniel Rossen (of Grizzly Bear) and Fred Nicolaus.

Jason Yarmosky
I saw this beautiful painting on Cool Hunting and immediately wanted to see more:
Here's another picture I love (from the same series, entitled "Orpheus"):
Check out the rest of Jason Yarmosky's work here.

Widespread panic
My cousin came to Thanksgiving this year wearing this shirt:
A hilarious spoof on the now all-too-famous "Keep Calm and Carry On" British propaganda poster:
Hehe.

Sneak peak
I'm still working on my book about Brooklyn Flea for my Type II class.
For the chapter headings, I wanted the text to feel much more textural and antiqued than I could achieve with a normal typeface. I used a number of hand techniques (tracing, watercolor, etc) to achieve the look below. I am in love with it, but I hope my teacher feels the same way...

Important things
My new TV show of choice is Important Things with Demetri Martin.
This guy is hilarious. I commonly laugh out loud while watching by myself in my apartment (I like the "jokes" segments much more than the sketches).
I also read this article about him in NY Magazine, which made me like him more. Taught himself to write with his left hand, just for fun?! Dropped out of NYU Law School to be a stand up comedian... before he'd ever tried stand up comedy?
Sheer genius.
Check out more here and here.

This little light of mine
I had to post this illustration by Miika Saksi because I just can't stop looking at how amazingly she rendered the light and shadows. Beautiful!

Fly, Blackbird, Fly
I posted earlier this week about my Diana toy camera.
Now there's a new toy camera with two lenses: the Blackbird, Fly.
Here are some sample pictures on Flickr. These really make me want to master my Diana. Plus, I love that the name references this song, which I've always loved.

Lights, camera, action.
Kinda silly, but entertaining at the same time: LED art with sheep. (!)

Recession obsession
8 Coupons published a NY Money Map, which shows various food/spa/other deals & discounts based on your NY zip code.
I passed right over some of the deals (Quiznos?), but some of them are worthwhile and are exclusive to the site.

First shot
I got a Lomo Diana+ camera for the holidays, and I just got my first roll developed.
Here are a couple of my first shots. There's room for improvement, but I love the Lomo effect and I'm excited to keep practicing. If anyone has any pointers, please let me know.

Duane Reade logo redesign
I'm apparently a little late in receiving this news, but NY drugstore Duane Reade is jumping on the logo redesign bandwagon. I'm not a fan. Thoughts?
Confessions of a Photoshopoholic
Sex, Lies and Photoshop on the NY Times website looks at the extent to which the pictures in the media have been Photoshopped and discusses whether or not publications should be forced to inform readers about this retouching.
Though we've all heard this story before, I'm continually shocked by the before and after images. Give it a look!
