I wrote about the Girl Effect here and here, and now I'm loving the ads that DDB, Lagos created for their newest project, Girl Hub. Girl Hub is the environment that drives the Girl Effect by communicating with girls and educating society about relevant issues. The ads combine girls with speech bubbles for faces combined with the captions, "Give them your voice" and "Speechless, no longer."

I can see clearly now..

Josh Silver invented self-adjustable glasses to distribute in the developing world. The lenses have silicon gel between them, which the user adjusts until he/she can see clearly. Removing the need for an optician to adjust them makes the glasses highly affordable, and therefore perfect for people who otherwise couldn't afford them. Read more about this awesome idea here.

Gerda Klein

My best friend's grandmother, Gerda Klein, was nominated as a "Jewish Community Hero." I've been lucky enough to grow up calling Gerda my surrogate grandma of sorts, and I can say firsthand that she is a truly wonderful and inspiring person.

Gerda is a Holocaust survivor and travels the world speaking about her experiences, educating audiences of all ages as well as helping people who have gone through their own traumatic experiences. She has done so much to help so many people—not only the Jewish community—and counts the United Nations and survivors of the Columbine shootings as just some of her many audiences. She's also an author and worked with HBO to create the documentary One Survivor Remembers, which is based on her experiences (and for which she won both an Oscar and an Emmy). She was also appointed by Bill Clinton to the council of the US Holocaust Museum. She also founded the Gerda and Kurt Klein Foundation, which works to alleviate human suffering.

Yellow Bird Project

This Indie Rock Coloring Book by Yellow Bird Project is so amazing, I just may have to get one myself. Profits from the book, which features illustrations related to current Indie rock bands, go to charity. Some examples of the bands included in illustrations are MGMT, Bon Iver, Iron & Wine, The National, Broken Social Scene, Bloc Party, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Au Revoir Simone, and The Shins.

Yellow Bird Project also sells some pretty awesome t-shirts designed by bands.
