One of the first things I love to do when going to someone's apartment for the first time is check out his/her bookshelf. It tells so much about a person. In this vein...Bookshelfies! A goofily titled tumblr of selfies of people in front of their bookshelves. Uh huh. You know the nerd in you loves it.

Kiss My Spatula

A new food blog I'm liking: Kiss My Spatula. Especially nice because, at the end of each recipe, she lists a "music pairing" to match the recipe (and many great photos). It's no secret I love anything that combines my multiple interests. Food + photography + music? I'll take it!

on't you think this drop cap from Jessica Hische is oh-so-lovely? I've had a design crush on her for quite a while, and I think her new site, Daily Drop Cap, is lots of fun. She offers up a new (beautiful, hand-drawn) letter every day, which you are welcome to use on your blog free of charge, provided you give her credit. I've been happy to see Jessica's work in more and more places lately (I even noticed it in my copy of this month's InStyle). Her unique style is blowing up, and I love it.

Good Night and Tough Luck

Christoph Niemann (of "I LEGO NY" fame) has a new blog post up at Abstract City. His illustrations are always a delight for the brain and the eyes, and I'm always happy when they pop up in my RSS inbox. Though his LEGO post is still my favorite, his newest post deals with sleeping problems, which I am plagued by pretty much nightly. Check it out here.

The Pursuit of Happiness

Maira Kalman's illustrated blog "And the Pursuit of Happiness" for the NY Times is great fun to look at and read. If I had all the time in the world, I would love to steal this idea. But alas, I do not.
As a sidenote, Maira's illustrations are also featured in Strunk & White's illustrated reissue of The Elements of Style, which I was dying to get my hands on when it came out a few years back. Grammar + great illustrations? It couldn't get much better for me (and yes, I know and accept that I am a huge nerd).
