Bookshelfies

One of the first things I love to do when going to someone's apartment for the first time is check out his/her bookshelf. It tells so much about a person. In this vein...Bookshelfies! A goofily titled tumblr of selfies of people in front of their bookshelves. Uh huh. You know the nerd in you loves it.

blacknegative

blacknegative's site is one of the coolest I've seen in a while. I had a lot of fun playing around with it (photos don't do it justice—go to the site to get the full interactivity!)—and their work is great, too.

Weather or not...

Ladies and gentlemen: the prettiest weather site you ever did see.

This site uses images of weather crafted out of paper and lightbulbs when providing your forecast. Yes, please!

Two new ways to waste time

Two new websites to check out for all your (unrelated) humorous needs:

1. Halloween or Williamsburg - Is that a costume?

2. Trend List- Design trends seen a lot. Not really sure if this one is supposed to be humorous, but it is..to me, at least.

Kiss My Spatula

A new food blog I'm liking: Kiss My Spatula. Especially nice because, at the end of each recipe, she lists a "music pairing" to match the recipe (and many great photos). It's no secret I love anything that combines my multiple interests. Food + photography + music? I'll take it!

Visit the site here.

Breaking it up

Something far more interesting than using Facebook user data for targeted advertising: Using it to look at cultural trends. David McCandless and Lee Byron culled data from Facebook status updates to determine patterns in breakup habits, as you can see by the graph below. Read more about it here.

The School

This website for The School at Columbia University, designed by Also, is pretty fabulous. I especially love how your mouse's cursor turns into a claymation cursor.
Check out Also's site, too—it's lots of fun.

What type are you?

This is fun.
(password = character)
Pentagram put together a "quiz" of sorts called "What type are you?" that asks you to answer a few questions and tells you which typeface is most fitting to your personality.

My type was Archer Hairline.

Daily Drop Cap by Jessica Hische

Don't you think this drop cap from Jessica Hische is oh-so-lovely? I've had a design crush on her for quite a while, and I think her new site, Daily Drop Cap, is lots of fun. She offers up a new (beautiful, hand-drawn) letter every day, which you are welcome to use on your blog free of charge, provided you give her credit. I've been happy to see Jessica's work in more and more places lately (I even noticed it in my copy of this month's InStyle). Her unique style is blowing up, and I love it.

Good Night and Tough Luck

Christoph Niemann (of "I LEGO NY" fame) has a new blog post up at Abstract City. His illustrations are always a delight for the brain and the eyes, and I'm always happy when they pop up in my RSS inbox. Though his LEGO post is still my favorite, his newest post deals with sleeping problems, which I am plagued by pretty much nightly. Check it out here.

Help I'm bored.

I've seen the help products all over New York lately, but I just now saw their brilliant website.
Click on the "help I'm bored" section and you will surely be amused. At least, I was.

Custom Sigg Bottles

So fun—make a custom Sigg bottle here.
You can preview various images once you upload your custom image (or choose from one of their templates). Below is an example I made using a logo I made for myself for a class.

Orba Squara

Wow wow wow. You must check out the band Orba Squara's website. It chronicles their tour journey and uses tons of great typography, illustrations, and photography. I could spend hours on this thing. Here are just a few screen shots to whet your appetite, but they don't do it much justice, so check it out for yourself.
