Paula Scher MAPS exhibit

Paula Scher's amazing map paintings are currently on view at the Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery in New York. Though I've loved them for a long time, I had never seen one of the paintings in person, so I ventured to the gallery last weekend to see them firsthand. I highly recommend you do the same if you're in the NY area (and hurry, because the exhibit is only up until February 18th!) If I happen to win the lottery or miraculously come across a large sum of money, I'd like to buy one of these and hang it on my wall. Until then, I'll just stare longingly at the iPhone photos I took (which hardly begin to do them justice).

Perfectly Flawed

Swedish illustrator Stina Persson makes beautiful watercolors, some of which are now on exhibit at Gallery Hanahou in New York under the title "Perfectly Flawed." Perfect indeed.

Let your hands do the talking...

These AT&T ads by Guido Daniele amazed me when I saw them online. But when I saw them larger than life on a billboard in Times Square the other day, I was even more impressed. He totally and creatively captured the locations he represented by painting on hands, and with all the texting we all do, the idea goes so well with the concept of advertising a phone.

Crystals & Lasers

I really, really like this mural by Matt Moore. The mural, and his other similar paintings, are part of a series called Crystals & Lasers, which is inspired by the month he spent living in Paris.

Alexa Meade

Alexa Meade paints on flesh, but the results are much different than anything I've seen before. Pretty awesome.

Antonello Silverini

I really love Antonello Silverini's illustration style—it's so full of texture and quirkiness.

Harland Miller

I really like Harland Miller's paintings of book covers. Miller is both an artist and a writer—a fact that somehow seems to make the paintings even more authentic. I wouldn't mind hanging a big one of these over my couch...

White House Art

The New York Times did a slideshow of some of the new artworks being loaned to the Obamas at the White House. I especially like the modern pieces they chose, some of which are not shown in the slideshow (but include works by well-known artists like Mark Rothko and Jasper Johns).

Sarah Hurwitz

My old friend Sarah Hurwitz is an artist who recently completed her MFA at U of A. We spent many a day in art classes together throughout middle school and high school, listening to Bob Dylan while making charcoal drawings and oil paintings, and we created all sorts of strange things together in our spare time. After sharing so much creative time with one another, it makes me especially happy to see her amazing work and how it has developed throughout the years.

Sarah uses a range of media—from acrylics to crayons, enamel, and polaroids—in her work, and her style reflects this diversity.
