Brooklyn Bridge

Last weekend, I walked across the Brooklyn Bridge (which I somehow had never done before). Here are some of the shots I took while walking.

Fringe Alchemy

The packaging for Fringe Alchemy's soaps is so very pretty (Anthropologie does it yet again)

Donna Karan handbags

Who knew Donna Karan makes such cute accessories? I especially like the red bag. See more here.

Hand drawn pixels

This drawing from Marc Johns cracked me up. "Hand drawn" is so trendy right now, and everyone's turning away from their computers...but "hand drawn pixels" are just so absurd they're amusing.

Matt Cipov

Matt Cipov has some cool work up on The Shiny Squirrel.

Kate Banazi

Kate Banazi has some great screen-printed posters using lovely bright colors & transparency...and they're on sale!

Take a seat

This is crazy.

From the description:
Danish library in Holland has smart chairs that follow you around and provide ready seating. These robotic chairs also know how to charge themselves on their own. Very smart and innovative.

Final work: Brooklyn Flea

At long last, I got around to taking some pictures of my Brooklyn Flea project from my Type II class last semester. Below are some parts of the book. It's divided into sections based on reasons people shop at the flea market, such as Economy (pictured below), Community, Environment, etc. Each section begins with a few vellum pages containing quotes from vendors and shoppers at the Flea, overlaying a photograph of the market pertinent to that section. Following the vellum pages are text and more pictures relating to that section. At the end of the book is a hand-drawn/watercolored map of Dumbo, the area surrounding the market. The script typeface used throughout the book is hand-drawn, as well.

All photography, text, drawing, and hand-done book binding by Yours Truly. Click images to enlarge.

Flight patterns

This video was created by filming long exposures of bugs flying under a street light. Who knew bugs could be so pretty?

A tune for you.

Sonnenzimmer

Chicago-based Sonnenzimmer has some really nice & textural screen-printed posters.

Dancing Ampersand

For my summer Digital Design class, we had to make a short stop motion movie using a small object. I'd never done stop motion before, and it's definitely a challenge to make it look good. Without further ado, here's my first foray into stop motion...

Birds of Sadness

A nice letterpress print from Studio on Fire, with a great quote:

“You cannot prevent the birds of sadness from passing over your head, but you can prevent their making a nest in your hair.” - Chinese proverb

Table signs

Here are some table signs I made for my friend's wedding in Martha's Vineyard. Each table was named for a different town in Martha's Vineyard, and she wanted a shell motif throughout.
I used handwritten type (based on Bickham Script) with a watercolor effect and printed them on watercolor paper with a deckle edge. Happy with how they turned out!

Thursday song.

A good one.

Diana Instant Back+

In addition to my Diana camera, I love the look of Polaroids—and the fact that they provide instant gratification. Now you can mix the two with the Diana Instant Back+, a compartment that hooks onto the back of the Diana camera and prints immediately using Fuji Instax film. The pictures still have Diana effects, but are simply printed immediately.

Buy here for $95.

New York, New York

Here are some "NY postcards" I made using some photographs I took (minus the photo of Grand Central, since I would have to get run over by traffic to get that shot).

Bon voyage

Here's a recent "bon voyage" card I made. Lots of faded type, which might be hard to see on the computer, but try clicking to enlarge it and look for the Kerouac quote on the right (one of my favorites):
