Type Tomes and Handmade Hardbacks.

Added to my book wishlist: Taschen's Type: A Visual History of Typefaces and Graphic Styles, Vol. 1 (as well as Type: A Visual History of Typefaces and Graphic Styles, Vol. 2, of course...when it comes out in February). If you're familiar with Taschen's books, you know how beautiful they are, and this book is no exception. It catalogues a wide range of type specimens from 1628-1900 (the second volume will pick up where the first left off) along with showcasing ornaments and flourishes.

Also on the wishlist is Fingerprint: The Art of Using Hand-Made Elements in Graphic Design. This goody features hand lettering, mixed media, illustration, and other hand-made design work and shows the benefits of including more traditional design methods in your work—a feat I've been trying to accomplish recently.
