I saw Patrick Thomas's work on The Daily Heller. He uses a smart combination of shapes and graphics to create other shapes, and the result is very cool:
This video for Department of Eagles' "No One Does It Like You" is incredibly creepy. My favorite part is when the ghosts rise out of the dead guys' mouths... The video debuted at the MoMA and was created using only six dancers. Department of Eagles features Daniel Rossen (of Grizzly Bear) and Fred Nicolaus.
I'm still working on my book about Brooklyn Flea for my Type II class. For the chapter headings, I wanted the text to feel much more textural and antiqued than I could achieve with a normal typeface. I used a number of hand techniques (tracing, watercolor, etc) to achieve the look below. I am in love with it, but I hope my teacher feels the same way... (Click to enlarge to see more detail)
My new TV show of choice is Important Things with Demetri Martin. This guy is hilarious. I commonly laugh out loud while watching by myself in my apartment (I like the "jokes" segments much more than the sketches).
I also read this article about him in NY Magazine, which made me like him more. Taught himself to write with his left hand, just for fun?! Dropped out of NYU Law School to be a stand up comedian... before he'd ever tried stand up comedy? Sheer genius.
I posted earlier this week about my Diana toy camera. Now there's a new toy camera with two lenses: the Blackbird, Fly. Here are some sample pictures on Flickr. These really make me want to master my Diana. Plus, I love that the name references this song, which I've always loved.
I got a Lomo Diana+ camera for the holidays, and I just got my first roll developed. Here are a couple of my first shots. There's room for improvement, but I love the Lomo effect and I'm excited to keep practicing. If anyone has any pointers, please let me know.
Sex, Lies and Photoshop on the NY Times website looks at the extent to which the pictures in the media have been Photoshopped and discusses whether or not publications should be forced to inform readers about this retouching.
Though we've all heard this story before, I'm continually shocked by the before and after images. Give it a look!
