A favorite.
I'm heading home for Thanksgiving today, but here's one of my favorites as a present to your ears.

5 Minute Candles
These 5-minute candle packs by Poketo look like a match box, but actually contain 10 small candles. The idea is that the candles can be used for impromptu, spontaneous celebrations, like birthday dinners.

Brought to Life
These images from the Science Museum in London's exhibit Brought to Life: Exploring the History of Medicine are creepy and really rad all at the same time. Especially those antique glass eyes.

Home letterpress machine
My favorite paper store, Paper Source, is now selling a "home letterpress machine." I wonder if this works? Obvious issues are size restrictions, whether or not you can use your own polymer plates, and if the result is professional looking...but could be interesting to give it a try.
Bio-Diversity
Christoph Niemann has a new post called Bio-Diversity up on Abstract City...oh how I love him so. Clever as usual.

Control: Print exhibit
This weekend, I went to see the Control: Print exhibit at Parsons since it deals with many of the same things my thesis does. From the exhibit catalogue:
Following are some pictures I took at the exhibit.
Control Print is a collaborative exhibition between Parsons The New School for Design and the Royal College of Art (RCA), London. Featuring works by a number of notable artists and designers who play with the notion of technology, Control Print explores the fate of ink on paper in the digital age.The books on display were definitely my favorite part of the exhibit, since I felt they did the most to actually put printed matter into the viewer's hands (and were the only place where there was significant information about the print vs. digital issue at length). All the books on display were accompanied by white gloves and a sign asking the viewer to wear the gloves and handle the books with care. While I understand the desire to keep the books fresh, I think this request took away some of the effect of the books, especially since texture was one of the issues explored. Overall, though, I was glad I went to see it, and there were some interesting pieces.
Following are some pictures I took at the exhibit.
Sublet Clothing
After reading about Sublet Clothing, an eco-friendly clothing company, on For Me, For You, I discovered this adorable dress. It's even made of organic cotton and bamboo. I think I'm a little bit in love...
Mistakes in Typography Grate the Purists
This article from the New York Times about typography errors was an interesting read (at least for type nerds like myself). Though I'm not (yet?) nearly as much of a type expert as those quoted in the article, I definitely find myself shuddering at subway ads and the like.

Desktop Wallpaper Project
I really like the desktop wallpaper Frank Chimero created for Kitsune Noir this week as part of their Desktop Wallpaper Project. Frank is one of my favorite illustrators, and this piece is no exception. Head over to Kitsune Noir to download your own.

Joe Sundwall
Holy beautiful. Hand-drawn type by Joe Sundwall, who worked with Herb Lubalin. Wouldn't it be wonderful to stumble upon these in your office, as Flickr user actualidea did?
